Love your theme music today! Keep the Internet free and don't allow our greedy "doing it to protect you" government screw around with it. After all, look at China. They regulate the Internet there like you would not believe. Not good!
I'm surprised to see you ask that question. As a techie, I'd expect you to be solidly on the side of technology.
I've read quite a bit about it and basically SOPA and PIPA are not inherently bad, but they are written in such broad words that they give the US Government ultimate control to shut down any web site they want without due process. That's scary, and we should never give power to the government that we can't manage.
I too started Princess of Mars this week, but I got distracted by the free download of "Don't Know Much About Mythology." The Egyptian creation myths would make one hell of a gnarly porno. I had no idea...
I've contacted my senators and Congressional Rep twice each about SOPA / PIPA. It's not that the bill gives govt too much power. The bill bypasses govt and essentially outsources enforcement to big business, with no due process rights at all for the accused. If Universal Music thinks our host here is infringing with his weekly (ahem) music podcast, they can shut down the site, no questions ask, no opportunity for defense. It's so blatantly unconstitutional that I personally believe anybody that co-sponsored the bill should be impeached.
LOVE the cover of "Everybody Knows". Been listening to it since my dad gave me the album. :)
I have so much to say about SOPA, it makes me want to write a book. Alas, I cannot.
Wassup? When do you all have free to hang out? We can't have you over because of the cats, but we promise to buy new clothes and shower someplace else before we come over to see you all...
re: Breaking Bad: I know! We have been watching (way too much) since the fall. We are getting through Season 4, just as two of the sites we were streaming from are shut down.... ugh.
Have a great week!
I read all the John Carter books like a million times each when I was a kid. I don't know how age-appropriate they were, but they were there, so I read them! Still have a soft spot in my heart for them as some of the first sci-fi I ever read and will see the movie for that reason alone. I saw the trailer with my husband and flipped out as I had no idea they were making a movie. I think he is more sure than ever that I'm just plain nuts. :)
